At Mengwi


Temple of Taman Ayun

Location

Pura Taman Ayun is situated in the village of Mengwi, Badung regency about 18 km northwest of the city of Denpasar, or about 30 minutes drive away from Denpasar. Taman Ayun has meaning a beautiful park because it is surrounded by a charming garden and small lake water. The water used by farmers to irrigate the surrounding fields. Pura Taman Ayun is a mother temple, Paibon,  for the kingdom of Mengwi.

Bit History

This temple was built in 1634 by the first king of the Kingdom Mengwi, Tjokorda Blambangan Sakti. There is also source states that it is built by Mengwi King, I Gusti Agung Anom. Pura Taman Ayun serves as one of the World Cultural Heritage in the annual session of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (Unesco) 36th in Russia.



Pura structure

Pura Taman Ayun consists of 4 different stages. The first stage is called with jabaan. Here there is a wantilan, huge building, to carry out activities during religious ceremonies. There is also a memorial fountain that leads to the 9 direction of the wind. On the next stage or the second yard there is a small temple complex name Pura Luhuring Purnama.

The third stage that a higher position than the previous stages, there is a building that is decorated with reliefs depict Dewata Nawa Sanga. Also there is a temple called Pura Dalem Bekak. On the last stage or mandala utama there are several buildings of worship of the God Almighty.


Piodalan

Piodalan falls every six months, to be exact every Tuesday Pon wuku Medangsia according to the balinese calendar. Mengwi and surrounding area communities celebrate the piodalan for several days worshiping to the God and all his manifestations.
