At Batur


Ulun Danu Batur Temple

 Location

This temple is situated in the village of Kalanganyar Kintamani district Bangli regency. Pura Ulun Batur is one of the celestial universe - kahyangan jagat of Hindus in Bali, revered as a place of worship to Deva Vishnu. In this regard, Deva Shiva is worshiped in Besakih Temple and Deva Brahma worshiped at the temple of Andakasa.  Besides as one of the celestial universe, Pura Batur is also one of the worship of the God of Prosperity.


Pura Batur previously located in southwestern slopes of Mount Batur. Catastrophic eruption in 1917 completed the destruction around Mount Batur including the temple. Most of the buildings damaged except the high-lying places of worship that survived. To avoid a similar disaster, Pura Batur rebuilt on higher ground at its current location.



History

According to the Hindus belief, Ida Hyang Pasupati who occupy the summit of Mount Prabulingga (Mount Semeru) sends his three sons and daughters named Lord Hyang Geni Jaya, Lord Hyang Putra Jaya, and Goddess Dewi Danu  to Bali to balance this island from a bad situation . Hyang Pasupati incorporate his three sons into the ivory palm, then swept away by the ocean floor. In magical his three sons and daughters arrived at the island of Bali safelly. Deva Hyang Geni Jaya then decided occupies Mount Lempuyang, Deva Putra Jaya at Mount Agung and Pura Besakih, and the Goddess Dewi Danu opts to stay at Danau Batur with Mount Batur as a peak. Dewi Danu is belief the manifestation of Deva Vishnu. Deva Vishnu is the manifestation of the God of Prosperity that giving water to living things.



Piodalan


Pura Batur is a place to worship the God to increase the spiritual power in order to build economic prosperity. Piodalan at Pura Ulun Danu Batur falls on Purnama Kedasa according to balinese calendar. (source: PHDI, Bali Article and others).
