Temple of Watukaru

Location

Down the winding road and uphill from Tabanan city to the north, after about an hour away you will arrive at the slopes of Mount Batukaru where the temple is located. You will enjoy a quiet and cool air in this place because of the remoteness from human habitation. Pura Luhur Batukaru located in Wongaya Gede village, district of Penebel, Tabanan regency. Here is a place of worship to the God manifestation Betara Mahadeva, who gives fertility to the plants.

Brief History

In some manuscripts mentioned Pura Luhur Batukaru founded by Mpu Kuturan or Mpu Rajakretha, around the 11th century AD. This temple get the name according to its location on the slopes of Mount Batukaru. More accurate data about the existence of the temple is still in the research phase.

Piodalan or ceremony in this temple falls every 210 days on every thursday wuku dungulan according to balinese calendar, a day after Galungan.
